Joanna Suyes

About
Joanna grew up in Chesterfield County, Virginia, received an M.Div. from the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond, and earned her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Richmond School of Law. Before becoming a lawyer, she worked for 17 years as a paralegal handling personal injury claims. She worked as an attorney for Marks & Harrison for 16 years before starting her own Social Security Disability-focused law practice.
Joanna is a nationally respected disability attorney and a tireless advocate for legal aid and pro bono. With over 15 years of service to vulnerable clients and the legal community, Joanna’s leadership and commitment to access to justice have left a lasting impact on the Commonwealth.
Joanna was most recently named a fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation. She is the past president of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, a 2,000-member organization dedicated to preserving fairness in our civil justice system. She is a past chair of the Social Security Law section of the American Association for Justice and a member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants Representatives. She has been rated by Super Lawyers since 2012 and has been named a Legal Elite by Virginia Business since 2018. In 2019, she received CancerLINC's Krista Latshaw Pro Bono Award.
Suyes Law sponsored CancerLINC’s annual Pack Your Bags fundraiser, this time with a Hawaii theme. I’m a member of the board of directors. Here’s their About page.
On July 1st, a bill Joanna crafted in the Virginia General Assembly will take effect. We’ll have more information to come when July 2025 comes.
